Think Beyond the Television
A video wall becomes part of the architecture: a cinematic focal point in a private theatre, a gathering place for game night, or a dramatic canvas in a reception space. Modular displays combine individual LED cabinets into one large image, without television-style bezels. The result depends on precise alignment, processing and calibration.
The right system starts with your space—not simply the largest screen that fits. We consider seating, daylight, content, sound and the surrounding finishes.
MicroLED, Explained Simply
True MicroLED uses microscopic, inorganic LEDs that emit their own light. It is part of the wider direct-view LED family, where viewers see the light-emitting pixels rather than an illuminated LCD panel.
Not every LED video wall is MicroLED. Fine-pitch describes pixel spacing; COB and SMD describe packaging and do not, by themselves, establish MicroLED technology. We check manufacturer specifications for the proposed model.
MiniLED televisions use LEDs to backlight an LCD panel. OLED is also self-emissive but uses organic light-emitting materials. Each approach has a place; compare the actual display, room, content and budget.
Use the illustrations below as a planning aid. The final wall is assembled from model-specific cabinet grids, so width, height and native pixel count depend on the selected product and viewing distance.
Choose the Size Around the Experience
A familiar 16:9 format suits most television and streaming content. Modular systems can also support wider or custom proportions, subject to cabinet dimensions and processor capabilities. Custom formats need a content plan: standard video may be cropped, scaled or shown with unused areas.
| Diagonal | Image size (inches) | Image size (metres) |
|---|---|---|
| 110 inches | 95.9 × 53.9 in | 2.44 × 1.37 m |
| 135 inches | 117.7 × 66.2 in | 2.99 × 1.68 m |
| 163 inches | 142.1 × 79.9 in | 3.61 × 2.03 m |
| 220 inches | 191.7 × 107.9 in | 4.87 × 2.74 m |
Calculated active image-area examples, rounded—not stocked products or guaranteed configurations. Frames, structure, ventilation and service clearances require additional space; actual sizes follow the selected cabinet grid.
Pixel Pitch & Viewing Distance
Pixel pitch is the distance between pixel centres, measured in millimetres. A smaller pitch generally helps the image look smoother from closer seating. A larger pitch may suit viewers who sit farther away, particularly outdoors.
There is no universal “minimum distance” that guarantees invisible pixels. Eyesight, content and personal preference matter. Tell us where the nearest seat will be; we can compare suitable pitches and recommend a representative viewing evaluation before you commit.
Size Is Not Resolution
A large screen is not automatically 4K. Native resolution depends on the number of physical pixels. For example, 3,840 pixels across at a 1.0 mm pitch require approximately 3.84 metres of active width; at 1.5 mm, approximately 5.76 metres. These are mathematical illustrations, not product configurations. A processor accepting a 4K signal does not make a lower-resolution wall native 4K.

Indoor: From Private Cinema to Architectural Canvas
Living rooms and shared lounges can use video walls for sports, films or digital art. Reflections, screen finish and controllable daylight matter as much as peak brightness.
For a dedicated theatre, prioritise fine pixel pitch, dark-scene detail, accurate colour and comfortable brightness. Plan speakers around the solid display surface; it is not an acoustically transparent projection screen.
Reception areas, boardrooms and hospitality spaces also need legible text, content management and service access.

Outdoor: Designed for the Elements
Take large-format entertainment to a terrace, poolside gathering space or commercial exterior with a purpose-built outdoor direct-view LED system. Outdoor LED is a broader category—not a promise that every outdoor screen is true MicroLED.
The specified model must suit the exposure, sunlight and viewing distance. We assess calibrated brightness and dimming for day and night, front and rear ingress-protection ratings, operating temperatures, drainage, corrosion exposure and controller and power-supply locations.
Ottawa’s freezing winters, summer heat and freeze–thaw cycles make whole-system design essential. An IP rating alone does not confirm cold-weather suitability. Enclosures, condensation management, wind loading and safe snow and ice conditions need appropriate planning. An indoor wall is not outdoor-rated simply because it sits under a roof.

The Installation Behind the Image
- Structure: verify wall capacity, mounting tolerances, cabinet weight and access routes with the appropriate professionals.
- Power and heat: plan circuits, isolation, surge protection and ventilation using the selected system’s maximum electrical load and heat output—not typical consumption alone.
- Sources and sound: check video formats, HDCP, HDR handling, gaming latency where relevant, signal distribution and audio design.
- Service: allow specified front or rear access and discuss replacement modules, calibration, warranty and maintenance.
One Thoughtful Experience
A movie-night scene can bring together the video source, sound, lighting and shades. We assess Control4 control options for the selected display processor and source equipment, alongside Lutron lighting and shading where specified. Supported drivers, commands and operating behaviour must be verified for the exact models; compatibility is not assumed.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. A premium television or projection system may better suit your room, budget or viewing habits. We help compare options rather than choose by technology name alone.
Modular systems offer flexibility, but cabinet increments, pixel pitch, processing and service space set the limits. We develop a buildable layout around your preferred proportions.
Only if the manufacturer explicitly approves that model and installation for the conditions involved. Otherwise, a purpose-built outdoor-rated LED system is required.
Display area, pixel pitch, processor, mounting, electrical work, cooling, audio and control all contribute. A site assessment and defined scope are the basis for a project-specific proposal.
