Kaleidescape is built for people who care how a movie looks and sounds. Instead of streaming compressed video, Kaleidescape downloads movies, TV series and concerts to local storage in your home. You get reference-quality picture and lossless Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio, and every component in your theatre performs the way it was designed to.

At Aura Design & Integration, we design and install Kaleidescape systems for media rooms and dedicated home theatres across Ottawa. We match the player to your display and audio system and tie it into your lighting and control for a one-touch movie night.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Kaleidescape?
Kaleidescape is a movie player and server system for home theatres and media rooms. Movies, TV series and concerts are purchased from the Kaleidescape movie store, downloaded to local storage in your home, and played back with lossless audio and reference-quality video.
How is Kaleidescape different from streaming?
Kaleidescape movies are downloaded, not streamed, so playback never buffers or degrades with your internet connection. Kaleidescape states its movie bitrates reach up to 100 Mbps, with lossless Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, DTS:X and DTS-HD Master Audio.
Which Kaleidescape player is right for my Ottawa home?
The current Strato family includes Strato K, Strato V, Strato C and Strato E. Strato K is the flagship, adding Kaleidescape's 4K Cinematic format and native 8K playback. We recommend a model after looking at your display, audio system, room and how large you want your library to grow.
Do I need a Terra server?
Not to get started. A standalone Strato player holds a small library on internal storage. Pairing it with a Terra or Terra Prime movie server unlocks the full Kaleidescape interface, larger libraries and playback in multiple rooms. A system can grow to up to four Terra Prime servers and any number of Strato players.
What internet connection do I need?
Because movies download to local storage before you watch, playback quality doesn't depend on your connection speed. A faster connection simply means quicker downloads. Kaleidescape notes that Strato K can download a 4K Cinematic movie in as little as 15 minutes over gigabit Ethernet. We plan a wired network as part of every install.
Can Kaleidescape work with my lighting and home automation?
Yes. Kaleidescape annotates each title with information like aspect ratio, end credits and intermission cues. Your control system can use that data to dim the lights, close the shades and adjust screen masking when the movie starts. Aura Design programs these one-touch movie scenes on the control platforms we install.
Can I use my existing Blu-ray discs?
Current Kaleidescape systems play titles from the Kaleidescape movie store; disc-import hardware like the Disc Vault is now listed as a legacy product. Movies you buy can be re-downloaded at any time, and you can download them on up to five systems registered to your account, which is handy for a cottage or second home.
Do you install Kaleidescape across Ottawa?
Yes. Aura Design & Integration designs and installs Kaleidescape systems in homes across Ottawa and the surrounding region, from a single media room to dedicated theatres and multi-room setups. Book a consultation and we'll walk you through a system for your space.
