Lutron Motorized Shades and Colour Cove Lighting on a Staircase Landing
This staircase landing has a big window and a tall ceiling. It gets a lot of sun. We installed Lutron motorized shades on the window and RGB cove lighting in the ceiling.
The shades
The shade is a solar screen roller. It rolls up smoothly and the trees outside come into view. When it comes down, you can still see out. The fabric cuts glare and softens the light coming in. The room stays bright without the harsh sun on the stairs.
There is no cord to pull and no ladder needed. The shade moves with a keypad, a phone, or a schedule. Lutron lighting and Lutron motorized shades run on the same system, so one button can set the shade and the lights together.
The cove lighting
The ceiling cove has RGB lighting. Most days it sits on warm white. It can also change to red, green or blue, then go back to warm white. In the evening a soft blue glow on the ceiling looks great with the black chandelier.
Why it works on a landing
Staircase windows are hard to reach. Motorized shades fix that. They can lower on their own when the sun hits and rise again later. That helps protect floors and furniture. Battery-powered and wired Lutron options are available, so shades can often be added to an existing home without major construction.

FAQ
Can I still see outside when the shade is down?
Yes. A solar screen fabric cuts glare and heat while keeping the view. How much you see depends on the fabric openness you choose.
Can motorized shades be added to an existing home?
Often, yes. Battery-powered Lutron shades need no new wiring. Wired options are also available when walls are open or easy to reach.
Can the shades and lights work together?
Yes. Lutron shades and Lutron lighting run on one system. A single keypad button or schedule can set both.
Do you charge for a consultation?
No. Consultations are free for homes within 250 km of Ottawa.
